Here is what I know to be true about the Kid Lit community: We care about children.
We want to create words, images and worlds to share a moment of hope and joy with a child. But the reality is, that while some kids have the luxury of a safe place and person to read to them, or the gift of a book for entertainment and escape, some kids aren't so fortunate.
While the world is reeling from Covid, and business and individuals are struggling, the human trafficking business is booming in the billions of dollars. Children are being sold into slavery and worse. As a mother and an author for children- nothing breaks my heart more.
What can we do about it? We can be AWARE and we can ACT.
The heart of Kid Lit is children, and that's why we are collaborating with Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.) to abolish child trafficking. O.U.R has already rescued 1,765 children and put 858 traffickers behind bars since 2014.
With this track record, there is a high demand from many states and international governments for O.U.R. to expand operations and save more children. But, they need more funding to do so and we are here to help!
I am calling on ALL KidLit creators: authors, illustrators, agents, editors and publishers to ACT (Against Child Trafficking) during the month of November through the 19th. Please watch the video and consider giving the value of a book towards this campaign. I believe in the heart of this KidLit community and I want to for us ALL to be a part of helping to write a better story for these children.
100% of your donation goes directly to Operation Underground Railroad through this link and is tax deductible. (KidLit Creators Against Child Trafficking logo donated by Shanda McCloskey.)
